Half the emails we receive open with the same question: should we bring our own car, or take one of yours? There is no universal answer, but there is a short honest checklist.
Bring your own car when
The route is sealed and forgiving — the Konkan coast, the Rajasthan circuit, the Tamil delta — and the car is one you know well and have serviced recently. Familiarity is a safety feature: you know the brakes, the blind spots, the sound it makes when something is wrong. There is also the simple pleasure of your own car carrying you somewhere it has never been; plenty of travellers tell us that mattered more than they expected.
Take one of ours when
The route punishes machines — the Manali–Leh road asks for a high-clearance 4×4 with recent high-altitude service, and holiday rental fleets are a lottery we don't play. Or when the arithmetic says so: flying into Jaipur and driving a loop beats driving two days each way from Bangalore just to start. Our arranged vehicles come insured, inspected with you before departure, and matched to the route rather than to a rental-lot algorithm.
The hybrid most people miss
On private trips you can split the difference: drive your own car with our lead vehicle ahead of you on the hard route, or take our car for the mountain leg and yours for the approach. The plan is bespoke anyway; the vehicle can be too.
The question behind the question
What people usually mean is: will I be safe, and will it feel like my trip? Those are both answerable. Safety comes from the route plan and the backup, whichever badge is on the bonnet. And it feels like your trip the moment you take the first wheel — ownership was never in the registration papers.
